Track Information
TRACK STYLE – CIRCUIT
TRACK SURFACE – DIRT (RESURFACED FOR 2020)
ENGINE TYPE – 4 STROKE
Lovingly referred to as the ‘Bathurst’ of karting tracks, the 1100m sprawling circuit comprises of 4 elevation changes per lap. This poses unique challenges for competitors, with several blind corners including a steep drop away down to the left after the long start straight when travelling anti-clockwise. Karts attempt to brake from full speed on the dirt surface, making the corner a heart-in-mouth experience as a driver and an exciting place to spectate with passing manoeuvres being undertaken almost every lap in some fields of competitors.
A kink in the middle of the main straight has the potential to bring any driver not careful with the right foot completely un-done and at speed, again producing some Adrenalin charged moments and huge levels of disappointment for competitors who try to push too hard using the wrong line – just metres away from the start finish line producing some highly entertaining race finishes.
A set of esses coming back up the hill on the back straight can be slippery, providing one of the most interesting challenges to high powered modified category competitors who will almost certainly need to be careful modulating their speed through this section which takes no prisoners.
From the start finish line, when positioned on the viewing platform spectators can see the entire track, making this a fantastic spectators course given the elevation changes.
The well laid out pit area offers plenty of grassed vehicle access positions close to the track to park a ute or trailer, and after a quick chat to anyone racing you’ll find everyone is more than willing to lend a hand to help with gearing or any other question you may have about racing there – it’s so friendly it’s almost hard to believe they’re actually racing for points!
With such a diverse range of corners, elevation changes, off-camber banked turns and great places to spectate, Ma Ma Creek is considered one of the most exciting and challenging kart tracks in Queensland. Coupled with the friendly family-focused atmosphere as well as low-cost engine classes and fair firm enforcement of rules along with the ability to score points toward class results, it’s the ideal place to begin your karting career, or to casually race a weekend away.
